It is a misconception that this amp RV service is something special. From this common service we can draw or volts. Each leg is 50 amps volts. Only a few mostly high-end coaches utilize the volt from this same service. The amp 3-pole 4-wire service is superior to the amp service because of the total amperage available. AMP gauges at the dash are troublesome. They should be by-passed, and then install a VOLT gauge. With normal but frequent use, most of these Dodge trucks will have electrical wiring problems. The first to fail were often the trucks equipped with factory air conditioning. The air conditioning system adds a significant electrical load. The additional current flow when using the air conditioning and increased resistance with heat will break down the weak areas more quickly.

Car Year, Make, Model: Will try topost them anyway first try so who knows what will get. The picturre showing the alt just behind it hanging from the hydraulic pump are 3 wires coming from the original volt regulater. THe one with the 2 batteries behind them on the firewallis the relay for the starter. Mainly I am just trying to get the amp gauge working. I assume maybe the delco-remy has it’s built in regulater so that might clash with the factory one?
Probably best talk to an autoelectric guy except none of them old enough to remember pos. Will try couple pictures see if works! Thanks Probably best talk to an autoelectric guy except none of them old enough to remember pos. Well, your talking to one of them, but, I don’t know how the other guy set it up. It sounds like a compound setup. That means a parallel-series combination.
The alt has it’s own regulator, has to for 12 volts.

How do you hook up a battery charger to charge a 24 volt system? Most 24 volt systems use 2 or 4 12 volt batteries.. Be careful not to let the cables get mixed up.
I used 20 gauge strand wire (V; and all 10 colors) from Wesbell Electronics () when I rebuilt my Solar CB cap nice thing about buying from them, is you don’t have to buy ‘ rolls of it.
Does it matter if I hook it up at all? Most of the other transmissions used a mechanical linkage or cable to indicate wide-open-throttle WOT. This WOT trigger achieves two things: Above a certain speed, as determined by the governor, the transmission will not downshift from third to second or second to first gear. This is to protect the transmission from damage. Instead of a linkage or cable, the TH uses an electrical switch that is most often mounted on the carburetor.
When the linkage hits WOT, this completes the circuit to connect the transmission to full system voltage.

If the indication is full the sender is bad. If all else fails, read the book, although it will probably tell you the same thing. BTW, it does not matter the model, all old Mopars are likely to use a similar setup.
Volt and Amp gauges monitor your vehicle’s electrical system. The ammeter measures the amount of current to the battery whereas the volt gauge measures continuous battery voltage. This article will explain how to install the amp and volt

Changing from 6 Volt to 12 Volt System: We carry most applications for exterior lights. Mechanical gauges only need 12 volt bulbs. You must use the original sender with the old gauge s. We have never seen a 6 volt gauge that you could not simply hook up to our reducer and be fine. Sorry, we have never been able to find any records of what your unit draws.
Sep 04, · thanks guys. i got the idiot gen light to working now, thanks to ‘mac1’ – another fine gentlemen on this forum, so at least i know if i have a broken fan belt or a bad alt. maybe i can get by without an amp or volt meter now for a while.
Wall outlets provide volt AC power, but amplifiers require volt DC power. You’ll have to do a little extra wiring, but the problem is not insurmountable. Look up the input power specifications for your amplifier, using the manual or the manufacturer’s website. Find the specification for current draw in amperes. Purchase an AC to DC power inverter. Make sure the inverter can produce a volt DC output at the specified amperage rating.
Cut a length of gauge red wire, a length of gauge black wire and a length of gauge wire, each long enough to reach from the amplifier to the inverter. Loosen the REM terminal of the amplifier with a screwdriver. Slide the ends of your wires into the loosened terminals and tighten down to clamp the wires. Loosen the terminals of the inverter.
Need a wiring diagram for a fuel gauge. February 15, , I had to make my own dash harness to complete the job.

Deciding in advance, where you want the gauge mounted and what circuit you will connect it to will make the procedure much easier. These steps apply to most aftermarket gauge sets and will help you install the unit in a matter of minutes. Park your car in a safe, level place. Turn off the power. Choose the best mounting location for your autometer volt gauge. A good place is under the dashboard, which makes it easier to route wiring away from plain sight.
Mark the mounting holes for the volt gauge using the mounting bracket for your gauge as a template. Set the mounting bracket in place and mark the mounting holes using a marking pen.

June 27, , My next step is to actually test it out for what I intended it to do. Long story short, I believe my ammeter on the gauge cluster might be a bit out of whack. When I first start the vehicle the needle just barely goes to the positive side, then within a few seconds it always drops down to just a hair on the negative. I’m guessing these things are probably calibrated somehow so it’s not hard to imagine that after 70 years it might be slightly off.
Well a few months ago my batteries were quite dead. It turns out my voltage regulator bit the dust. By following the manual and jumping a couple of terminals thereby bypassing it, I confirmed that my generator was good.

Both would be examples of a deviation from the factory norm. Any time I disassemble something with wires on it.. Doesn’t have to be an intricate drawing.. Battery polarity is a big issue that should always be paid attention to when removing or replacing a battery.. Doing that would prevent any catastrophic high current meltdowns, leaving only a small issue of mismatched ignition coil polarity..
Another issue is sloppy mechanics.
