The advantages are that Latino men are very in touch with their feelings and passions. As with any country where you are a foreigner, be aware that local forces are at play. Ecuadorian Women These girls are a glorious mix of Spanish, Indigenous and African, and take pride in their appearance. Wedding Customs – Celebrating a Joyous Occasion In Algeria, as in all Arab countries, society revolves around religion and the religious customs of Islam. Marriage in Algeria is taken very seriously and is considered by most as a sign of maturity.
Peru has a long and rich history. The Spanish conquistadors Francisco Pizarro c. The indigenous population of Panama referred to this powerful state as the land of Piru or Peru word meaning “land of abundance” in the region’s native Quechua tongue. The northern and central part of the South American continent was described as such in all the early chronicles and ethnohistoric accounts. Although the name Peru was used by foreigners to describe the indigenous Inca population, they called themselves the Tahuantinsuyu meaning “the four-quarters” in Quechua.
To this day, one of the most powerful groups to challenge Peruvian national identity is that of the contemporary Indian population, which at different times in history has seen itself as the rightful heirs of the Inca empire and has resisted European influence on its culture. The name Peru was pervasive during the colonial period and was used to denominate the larger sections of the powerful viceroyalty of Lima.
Upon independence, Peru was the name given to the country. Peru has an approximate land area of , square miles 1, , square kilometers and is located in the central western section of the South American continent. Peru’s capital, Lima, is located on the coast, about 8 miles 13 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. Lima is home to almost a third of Peru’s total population, with a total of two-thirds of the country’s population living in the coastal region.
Peru is divided into three major regions. The western coast contains dry, desertlike regions to the north as well as to the south, with more agriculturally productive lands along the major valleys formed by the western-draining Andean rivers. The Central Andes run as the backbone of Peru and are comprised of two large mountain ranges with spectacular snow-capped volcanoes and temperate mountain valleys.

Marriage in Algeria is taken very seriously and is considered by most as a sign of maturity. According to the Qur’an, marriage must be based upon love. Algeria’s wedding customs amongst those following the Muslim religion are much the same as in other practicing Muslim communities. Algerian men and women are free to marry whomever they wish as long as the marriage partner is approved by the family.
Parents have a more realistic view and can give their children practical guidance in selecting the appropriate marriage mate. Typically a man will express his love for a woman to his mother who will in turn “investigate” the family of the woman as to suitability. If she is approved the family will approached the woman’s family to propose the union. A date will be chosen to visit the mosque so as to begin the engagement.
Much preparation takes place from the time of engagement. The family will begin purchasing clothing, household goods, wool and gold. This is referred to as shoura. The couple will spend time together getting to know each other well, sharing opinions and preparing a home. In Islamic culture , husbands and wives are to make mutual decisions and have equal claims in the marriage, it is therefore vital that the couple know each other well and recognize the roles they will take on before marriage.
Algerians believe that the more money that is spent on the wedding , the more proud the family can be.

The traditional carnival of Acireale , Sicily From the anthropological point of view, carnival is a reversal ritual, in which social roles are reversed and norms about desired behavior are suspended. Carnival can thus be regarded as a rite of passage from darkness to light, from winter to summer: Until spring produce was available, people were limited to the minimum necessary meals during this period.
On what nowadays is called vastenavond the days before fasting , all the remaining winter stores of lard, butter, and meat which were left would be eaten, for these would otherwise soon start to rot and decay. The selected livestock had already been slaughtered in November and the meat would be no longer preservable. All the food that had survived the winter had to be eaten to assure that everyone was fed enough to survive until the coming spring would provide new food sources.
The winter would be driven out, to make sure that fertility could return in spring. Also, there are some indications that the effigy of Nerthus or Freyr was placed on a ship with wheels and accompanied by a procession of people in animal disguise and men in women’s clothes. Ceterum nec cohibere parietibus deos neque in ullam humani oris speciem adsimulare ex magnitudine caelestium arbitrator — “The Germans, however, do not consider it consistent with the grandeur of celestial beings to confine the gods within walls, or to liken them to the form of any human countenance.
The writings show that processions with ship-like carts were held and lavish feasts were celebrated on the eve of Lent or the greeting of spring in the early Middle Ages. The Catholic church condemned this “devilish debauchery” and “pagan rituals”.

Easy Number of buses: From the main bus terminal in David, I then took a local bus up to Boquete. The first of two daily buses to David leaves the Tracopa station in downtown San Jose at 7: The Tracopia bus was modern and comfortable but did not have a bathroom on board. Personally, I have mixed sentiments about bathrooms on buses since although they are convenient, on long trips the odour can sometimes become unbearably nauseating — depending on where you are seated.
When the bus left the station, there were about 10 passengers on board, but by the time we made our first pit stop, the bus was almost three-quarters full. After about two hours on the road, we pulled over and made a quick five-minute stop at a roadside restaurant where passengers could use the bathroom and grab a snack. The bathrooms were fairly clean and no usage fee was charged, like at some bus-stops in Central America.
The driver did not announce how long we would be stopping for and instead of doing a passenger count before leaving, he settled for honking his horn four times and took off. Originally I had expected the bus to go through the centre of Costa Rica, but much to my surprise a significant part the trip was actually a scenic ride along the Pacific coast, passing popular beach towns like Quepos and Dominical.
Somewhere around Dominical, we made our second stop — this time for 30 minutes long enough to eat a full meal.

No man alone dared travel the royal road from the city’s gate after nightfall. In the streets, snakes, toads and iguana were frequently seen. The native wildcat prowled in the suburbs and, besides carrying off fowls and pigs, sometimes attacked human beings. But Portobelo was a market town as well as a fortress. It came to life at least once a year during the trading fairs which lasted from 40 to 60 days.
The flood of gold that poured through the trails across the Isthmus, after Pizarro began his plunder of Peru, was traded for goods from Spain and Europe. The fair began when the fleet of merchant ships and galleons arrived in port from Cartagena and Spain loaded with goods to be traded for gold and silver. The goods were shipped to South America and even to the Philippines.
